This is a continuation of the notes described on 10/20/2002 and 10/21/2002. This is text recreated as a blog entry to preserve formulas originally written on large butcher sheets of paper in 11/3/97. The formulas used symbols I invented – I still have the sheets now protected in slipcovers. This work represents stepping stone on the pathways to studying system dynamics and writing the Companion. All capitalized terms have specific definitions that are probably not generally accepted usage. Comments on research at conclusion.
Thought Patterns
Mind/Emotion/Collective Input definitions: Mind = DualisticSynergy of Mind (detailed elsewhere)
Emotion = (Chemicals dependent on the Brain) + (NeuronPaths dependent on the Brain) (aside to Life/Death notes not recorded)
CollectiveInput = GeneticHeritage interacting in some manner with StoredMemories) Wherein: if StoredMemories is greater than or equal too GeneticHistory then
CollectiveInput = LearnedResponse Wherein: if GeneticHistory is greater than or equal too StoredMemories then CollectiveInput= Instinctual
THOUGHT Thought = Will acting upon (Mind interacting in some manner with Emotion interacting in some manner with Collective Input)
THOUGHT TRIANGLE (diagram of equilateral triangle, top point is Mind, bottom left is Emotion, and bottom right is CollectiveInput. Will is marked in the center exerting influence towards all three points)
Wherein: if Mind is greater than or equal too (Emotion + CollectiveInput) then Thought = Rational/Determined (top point of triangle labeled Rational/Determined) Wherein: if Emotion is greater than or equal too (Mind+CollectiveInput) then Thought = Irrational (bottom left point labeled Irrational) Wherein: if CollectiveInput is greater than or equal too (Mind+Emotion) then Thought = EnvironmentDetermined (bottom right point labeled EnvironmentDetermined with subset of Learned Response or Instinctual)
Wherein: if (Mind + Emotion) are greater than CollectiveInput but not greater than one another then Thought = Insanity?? (midpoint of left side of triangle labeled Insanity??) Wherein: if (Mind + CollectiveInput) are greater than Emotion but not greater than one another then Thought = Programmed?/Educated? (midpoint on right side of triangle labeled Programmed?/Educated?) Wherein: if (Emotion + CollectiveInput) are greater than Mind but not greater than one another then Thought = Gut Instinct? (midpoint on bottom side of triangle labeled Gut Instinct?) Assumption: Will is the moderator of what parts comprising Thought are dominant and what are subordinated. In traditional western European “rational thought” the Will subordinates Emotion and CollectiveInput to the Mind. Question: Can differences in how Will moderates Mind, Emotion, and CollectiveInput when creating a Thought lead to an understanding of different mental patterns that do not fit as normal “rational thought”. Question: Can relationships between Will, Mind, Emotion, and CollectiveInput be expressed by Pythagorean theorems or trigonometry?
NON-FLAT THOUGHT TRIANGLE (take the image above, turn it to 3d view, extend the point of Will “up” until it forms a cone with Will as a dotted line in the middle, slice into three layers, the bottom layer is marked Awake, the middle layer is marked Dreaming, top layer is marked Spirit)
Awake Layer of Thought = Rsub0 (core reality or C-level) containing Body, Mind, Spirit, thought triangle described above fits into this layer with Will at top point of cone contained within larger cone. Contains: Brain(including all subcomponents) + Mind + Spirit Dreaming
Layer of Thought= RsubD (dreaming reality or D-level) Contains: Mind + Spirit Spirit Layer of Thought?? Contains Spirit.
Spirit = (Will + Faith + Magic) Comments: This was the meat of the second sheet I had which focused mainly on the brain and how it works.
The Thought Triangle and Nont-Flat Thought Triangle were something I really struggled on how to express for several years, the notes indicate I actually finished the Non-Flat Thought Triangle diagrams in 1999. It’s probably pretty confusing to imagine without the drawings for assistance but it’s basically a model for how Thought’s are created in the Brain. I doubt it’s actually a triangle at work, but it’s a good enough metaphor. Thought’s become important later (or earlier) because of my definition for an Action that requires two key parts: a Thought and an external application of the Thought in the real world. That definition is in a notebook I started writing in college in 1992 defining philosophical terms I thought were important to framing my world outlook. Every time I saw “all capitalized terms have specific definitions that are probably not generally accepted usage” I’m referring to these terms I created in 92 and began defining. Before I go to much further I’ll have to define DualisticSynergy which is probably the “keystone” piece of understanding my view on how the Brain, Mind, and Spirit all come into existence, coinhabit the same yet different spaces, and indeed is my theory/proof for sentience. I originally came up with the idea in PoliSci Theory in 93 to explain how nation-states acted, and could be predicted to act, like living animals but the idea also helped me understand a key part of how the Mind works. That’s for another post later though, unfortunately, I have never been able to diagram or put into a formula the theory behind DualisticSynergy and it’s really hard to relate. It’s taken nearly a decade for me to be able to firmly grasp it in my head as it’s one of those “mind” bogglers. =)
